Proxy Bidding and Other FAQs

Bid efficiently with Proxy Bidding — here's how it works:

A Proxy Bid is the maximum amount that you are willing to pay for any one item. Your Maximum Proxy Bid is kept secret, and is not necessarily the amount that you will end up paying, let me explain;

Our auction data software will bid (this is called Proxy Bidding) on your behalf by steadily increasing your bid by the smallest allowable increment, in order to beat any incoming bids, until the amount of your Maximum Proxy Bid is reached. Your Maximum Proxy Bid would have to be exceeded for you to loose the item. If the item closes at a lower price than your Maximum Proxy Bid, then you get the item for that lower closing price.

Why have Proxy Bidding?

Because it means you don't have to be running to the phone every few minutes to increase your bid. You can just watch the current bid information running across the bottom of the Rotary Auction screen on your television to see if you are still winning on the item you have your secret Maximum Proxy Bid amount on.

If you see the item closed at a lower value than your Maximum Proxy Bid was then you know that you have won the bid on that item and that within the next hour you will be getting a phone call informing you of your winning bid.

If you see that your Maximum Proxy Bid amount was exceeded and the item is not yet closed then you can decide if you want to call the a Bid Taker at 445-8857 and bid the item up again.

You also don't have to worry about being outbid at the very last minutes of the hour unless someone bids over your Maximum Proxy Bid amount.

Choose your maximum carefully, though, as you won't be able to reduce it later.

Your Bid is a Contract
Only place a bid if you're serious about buying the item;
if you are the winning bidder, you will have entered into a legally binding contract to purchase the item from the Rotary Club.

There cannot be a tie with this software. There will be only one winner per item and all bids are saved with a time stamp for verification. So, if there is any dispute over the winner, we can soon sort it out.
